Our Spring 2017 exhibition will be titled Chance Operations, the theme, easy to guess … perhaps we'll have some dice to roll, cards to tell fortunes by, Surrealist games to play. Very interested to see what work comes to us for this exhibition.
After next Sunday, Sometimes Books will be closed, but work will commence on a catalogue of our three shows in 2016, hoping to include not only information about the exhibitions and the artists, but a few poems & narratives to give it some added depth. The plan is to publish it online as a pdf and also as a limited edition print version. Stay tuned, as they say.
The Mid-Summer exhibition at Sometimes has been installed for several weeks … but the reception will be next Sunday. We've been busy with the Box Show around the corner at Gallery Route One and there hasn't been time for a reception here at Sometimes Books. We've had to change our closing date, too, because of the Box Show. We'll close on Saturday (instead of Sunday) Sept. 17.
All Over the Map: meant to allow for just about any kind of book -- but also to suggest summer travel books, too. At Sometimes we are happy to accommodate artists by exhibiting what they choose to show, instead of setting themes and being curatorial -- but its fun to suggest a possible topic and see what comes in.
Many thanks to Renee Owen for organizing our closing event today. About 20 people attended the Show and Tell and Reading from the books. Its always enlightening to hear what has gone into the creation of a book, as well as hearing poetry, random word salads and personal histories … Renee mentioned her childhood obsession with Pippi Longstocking and read a bit where Pippi describes "thing finders," people who have to go out and find things. There are many "thing finders" among the artists who exhibit at Sometimes Books. Perhaps our next show (after "All Over the Map" will be titled "Thing Finders."
